You know, the big pay off at the end. Why was the song so theatrical toward the end? I think that's what makes the song work. I think it's because of the complex simplicity of the record. On the surface it seems pretty simple and, you know, a pretty basic concept.

Then when you actually take a listen to the song you realize that it just has so many layers. Being a member of my group Dru Hill, we're basically known for soul things. The music video was quite revolutionary too. We had a lot of red tape because at the time you couldn't really show that much booty on camera.

If you actually look at the video, you really don't see a thong in the first video. Because like, you couldn't even show that. And so in the very first video, every thong that you see from the side or like upside down. And so we slipped past the censors on that. And then it was like the booty revolution. In the 20 years since Thong Song's release, what has been the most memorable moment for you?

But by the end of the thong contest, those girls were butt naked. And every one of those thong contests ended in the same way. Even Dave Chapelle spoke about it in one of his shows. What do you remember about that? To be completely honest, I feel like the video was sabotaged. Because I had a list of things that I had written to the label that I expressed. The first thing was, if the video was in the daytime, it was going to be lame.

Then, the video was in the daytime. Come right around the corner. It was almost like they did exactly the opposite. Is that true? It was a waste, though. It was one of those things where I had written a treatment, I drew up everything. Only thing they showed me was the actual dragon, and we just kept going back and forth with the dragon. Then, we were going over some of the special effects, then we had wire work going, and then we were working on getting Tatyana Ali in the video.

So I was kind of preoccupied with that stuff, and then when I got to the video set, when we shot the first part, it was actually dark like dusk.

So it was about to turn nighttime. So I kind of just got to shoot it, but I was really upset the whole time. And then when the artist says something about it, we look crazy, hard to work with, all the above. Do you remember that performance? Do you feel a certain type of way? So it was always taking that extra time to make sure that we were doing it right.

Because Michael could do it. When you look at videos of him singing with his brothers on tour, he was hitting that live. Is that correct? During the pandemic, what have you been into? Mass Effect 2 , even though I played the whole series. Definitely Zelda.
