When is jesus bringing the pork chops

Indeed, there are numerous related pieces about euphemisms, going for more in-depth than any of his concert material had ever done. His clever wit and repartee is released and unbounded in this performance. If you disapprove of profanity, than Carlin is not an artist you would appreciate, as he sometimes uses profanity the way Van Gogh used bush, paint, and canvas.

And, I imagine some of this is "B material" as it didn't make the cut for his stand up concerts. Or perhaps he didn't have enough time to perform these bits, as there is probably six hours of previously unperformed material. If you are a Carlin fan, you'll want to get this performance. Though not his last recording or performance, it certainly contains hours of previously unreleased material, that is mostly of as high a quality as the material from his albums and HBO concerts.

While parts of the book get lost in abstract principles, the overall experience is entertaining. The jokes are not always funny at least not to me , but very few books with a lighter side are going to hit every time.

As for the read, I can't imagine reading the book in hardcover or having somebody else read Carlin but himself. If you enjoy him and his delivery, give this book a shot. Anyone who comes expecting George Carlin to be anyone but himself is lost. His fans will enjoy this, as did I. How could you possibly not love the late great George Carlin? Hilarious, wise, and insightful, this man will never fail to entertain, inform and educate. George Carlin was one of the greatest minds we had the pleasure to see into through works like this.

Carlin, thought provoking. A little dated in places, so if you weren't culturally aware at the time this was written it might be a little lost on you, but it's not severe. Buy it and enjoy. If you know George Carlin then you know what to expect. He delivers nothing short of what we've come to expect.

Wasn't that funny, maybe because it's an audiobook and not a special. Maybe because he was trying to make points rather than make people laugh.

Don't know, Don't reccomend. Loved it!! Highly recomended. I'm not an American but still it is hilarious to listen! George Carlin was one gem in this world. World is emptier without you He stoops down to a lot of crass toilet humour in this book; most of it not funny enough to be justified.

Not a bad book, but not a good place to start with George Carlin. Carlin is always special but 7 hrs of Carlin comedy delivered by the man himself, superb.

Perhaps thirteen year old boys and bitter, grumpy old men. George was always vulgar and "in your face" but this book, if you can call it that, goes way beyond. You can't actually tell whether he's trying to be ironically funny or if he actually believes the stuff he's spouting, there are blatantly obvious satires but very little classic Carlin wit, he often comes off as boorish and crude.

Most of it is just repetitious ramble. There is very little quintessential Carlin here. How did the narrator detract from the book? Carlin sounded as defeated and deflated as the topics he schizophrenically jumps back and forth between.

One of the primary messages of the book seems to be, "Don't worry about them coming to get you, they're here and they've got you already" Ironic really, that the apathy in his voice fits with it's overall message of hopelessness in a artsy sort of way.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment? Carlin's stand-up comedy was controversial and FUNNY with a delivery that suggested that he genuinely believed the vast majority of what he spoke about, that he wasn't just saying things for a laugh. The only anger and sadness I sorry to have used a membership credit on this book.

If you enjoy George Carlin's stand-up, you will not find more of the same here. This is basically George Carlins stand-up transcribed in to book form and it just doesn't work. Not even with Carlin himself narrating.

It's choppy, doesn't really have any direction and isn't very funny. A friend of mine brought this book to me and told me it was the funniest thing she had read in a long time, better than his other book and she thought of me while she read it and how much I would love it. I'm now questioning that friendship and if it needs to continue. Anyway, if you are stuck in an airport, doctor's office are repair place I would bring this one a long.

Its easy to pick up, put down and skim through. There are also some really good parts you will want to pass on to your friends. However, it really is wading through the crap to find the dimonds. I picked this one up because I love Carlin's work. He's as good as it gets if you prefer your stand-up comedy mixed with a bit of clever thinking.

Most reviewers stress two facts: a it's not that funny and b it's not "a book", it's filled with one-liners Both of which are true. But then again, if all you're looking for is "fun", why pick up Carlin in the first place? He's mostly known for his subversive, insulting humor. The same seems to be true if you're not looking for one-liners but an actual I picked this one up because I love Carlin's work.

The same seems to be true if you're not looking for one-liners but an actual plot. It's a book that a comedian wrote -although, you'd have to admit- a very talented deep thinker too. The best part of When Will Jesus Silly questions with hidden meanings, musings, ideas for TV shows that'd never make it, that sort of stuff.

The rest is longer in length texts, of clever remarks on the use of language in America, of imaginary uncles of his and their life and deaths, and of plain Carlin awesomeness. All in all, I enjoyed this book because in each and every of its lines I could actually see and hear Carlin speaking. You know, that deep, ironic American accent of his. It was fun. I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, but I can guarantee that his fans will like it.

I did. Jul 25, Mike rated it it was ok. Hey guys! My first audiobook! It comprises stand-up bits from other specials, but is not delivered with the rhythm and energy required for a live audience; there are admittedly stray observations that end with a confession of 'it's these sorts of thoughts that hold me back' or 'meh, anyway'; and lots of time spent on Carlin's alarmist concern for the decay of modern language.

His perspective on speech will make you pay more attention Hey guys! His perspective on speech will make you pay more attention to the stupid crap people say. He does have a way of making you feel as irritated about how people communicate as he is I could give examples upon request.

But the stand-up repeats are not as good delivered to a tape recorder, the sketches and quickies are hit-or-miss the funny ones aren't so memorable , and lastly, the rants on euphemisms and rhetoric are tiresome. Shouldn't a treatise on bloated language be succinct? Glad Carlin equipped me with that sensitivity to language and speech; it's important to curb inflated, redundant writing. One can probably acquire that inner editor by watching his stand-up, but those parts of the book are a nice reminder Thanks, George!

Jun 29, Menglong Youk rated it it was amazing Shelves: five-star , audiobook , humor , reread. In term of Philosophy, I dare say that George Carlin influenced me more than other ancient philosophers. Although I don't use his language, my approach to the problems and the way I view everything around me are similar to George, not because I had them myself in the first place, but because I learned gradually by listening to his talks.

This book takes on many taboo subjects, one of which is religion. Many authors advance on this topic in a serious way, but to George, he managed to insert humor In term of Philosophy, I dare say that George Carlin influenced me more than other ancient philosophers. Many authors advance on this topic in a serious way, but to George, he managed to insert humorous reasons but still maintain his firm stand on this issue.

Again, I recommend audiobook version if you want to experience this book. Not your usual critical realism book. Human behaviour contains so many irrational and humorous aspects, and Carlin is a master for spotting them.

Definitely suggest audio rather than reading! Jul 04, Ashraf Bashir rated it did not like it Shelves: funny. A couple of the jokes are good, deep, and insightful, especially the ones on religion. The others are superficial and not funny, for instance, he spent 7 pages talking about what women wear wearing types , make-up types Still the religious jokes are very well crafted!

Jun 25, C. Thomas rated it it was ok Shelves: nonfiction. This was Carlin's third book and while it is terribly funny, this was also biting. I winced in several spots instead of laughing. Carlin is clearly not a fan of organized religion so if you're the least bit religious, you might just get offended.

Of course, if you're reading Carlin, that's probably just an expectation! My favorite sections are always his euphemisms and he doesn't fail to deliver here. This book, though, had a different tone. The focus was less on being funny and more on observing This was Carlin's third book and while it is terribly funny, this was also biting.

The focus was less on being funny and more on observing our demented American lifestyle. It wasn't like some of Carlin's other books that felt like a running comedy routine that you could just pick up and and devour in one sitting. This one is more like a sharp cheese that you have to nibble on a little at a time.

Still, if you're a Carlin fan, you'll like this one. Apr 02, Benjamin rated it really liked it. Hear are some things you should not say if you encounter a comedian. First: If you're with another person at the time, don't say to your friend, "You better watch out, he'll put you in one of his skits. It's not funny. And, by the way, we don't do skits.

Second: If you meet him while you're at your job, do not say, "You oughta work here, you'd get a lot of material. Just because you work with a bunch of simpletons, doesn't mean it translates into comedy. Thir Hear are some things you should not say if you encounter a comedian. Third: If you work at a store, and we're shopping there, and some small mix-up occurs that needs to be sorted out, don't say to a co-worker, "He's gonna put this in one of his routines. One more thing we don't like: When you tell us something you think is funny and then you say, "You can use that if you want.

Believe me. May 19, Akshay rated it did not like it. After seeing some of George Carlin's shows and liking them I decided to read this book. The book however is horrible as compared to the live shows.

He just keeps on ranting in the whole book. Sometimes the rant is justified but mostly it's just gibberish. I barely made past the half of book and couldn't finish it even after the best of my efforts. Dec 10, Todd Bristow rated it liked it. Carlin at his most nihilistic. His observations are brilliant as always, but his "stories" and characters just don't do it for me.

Mar 31, Gautham Vasan rated it really liked it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. George Carlin being savage af as always.

My god, this guy is amazing. A relentless troll against pretentious language. Just when I thought I was normal, he makes me feel like a complete asshole. Please re-enter recipient e-mail address es. You may send this item to up to five recipients.
